Bio subsidies from the EU

IF YOU ARE A CERTIFIED ORGANIC PRODUCER

If you are a certified organic producer, you are entitled to special subsidies for the use of bioagents in protecting your crops from pests. These financial incentives are aimed at supporting sustainable agricultural practices that reduce environmental impact and ensure healthy production. The use of bioagents, such as entomophages produced by Organic Invest Bio Protection, not only safeguards the harvest—leading to increased yields compared to unprotected crops—but also meets the high standards for organic production.

Certified organic producers within the European Union can receive various types of subsidies, which vary depending on the type of cultivated crops and applied practices.

Main Financial Incentives Include:

Direct Payments under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) – Bioproducers can benefit from basic direct payments, as well as additional subsidies for green practices (Green Payments). These encourage the conservation of natural resources and sustainable farming.

Agro-ecological Payments – Specially designated for bioproducers, these subsidies are part of rural development programs. They compensate for costs associated with implementing organic production methods, including the use of bioagents and biodiversity conservation.

Investment Support – Bioproducers can apply for subsidies for farm modernization, purchasing equipment for organic production, or introducing innovative technologies for crop protection against pests. This support often covers up to 60% of incurred expenses, depending on national regulations.

For specific amounts and conditions, it is important to consult local agricultural offices or organic certification agencies responsible for CAP implementation in Bulgaria.

National Program of Measures for Controlling the Tomato Leaf Miner – Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera) – Ministry of Agriculture and State Fund “Agriculture”

A National Program of Measures for Controlling the Tomato Leaf Miner Tuta absoluta is expected to be approved for 2025.

The aid is provided as partial compensation for the expenses of farmers growing tomatoes in greenhouses for purchasing plant protection products and means for controlling and eradicating this pest. If a laboratory analysis by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) confirms a mass multiplication of the pest in other greenhouse-grown vegetable crops (pepper, eggplant, potatoes), the aid will also be extended to these crops.

Maximum Intensity of the Aid:

Farmers are supported with up to 100% of the costs for purchasing plant protection products and means for controlling and eradicating the invasion of Tuta absoluta in greenhouse-grown tomatoes (vegetables), but not exceeding 3,500 BGN/hectare, VAT included.

Who Can Apply for This Aid?

The aid is provided to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises – agricultural producers meeting the following conditions:

  • Registered under Ordinance No. 3 of 1999 for the establishment and maintenance of the register of agricultural producers.
  • Meeting the definition and conditions for micro, small, and medium enterprises, as per Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2022/2472.
  • Having no outstanding obligations to the State Fund “Agriculture” (SFA).
  • Having no outstanding public debts to the state budget.
  • Cultivating tomatoes (vegetables) in greenhouses.
  • The aid is granted upon submission of a declaration by the farmer confirming the presence of the pest and the need for actions to mitigate the damage to production.
